On Friday I wheeled the ped out into the workshop so I could stand well back and take a look and decided
1-The back end is too low or the front too high, unfortunately due to using the CB front end with the nice top yoke no front height adjustment was available.
2-The clip ons looked ok from the side but too low when viewed from the front.
To be honest the back was just too low so I nipped next door to Classic Honda with tape measure in hand and found a new pair of pattern shocks with the fork type fitting to suit my swing arm, they were 40mm longer which I thought might be too much but gave them a go. Hey presto, works for me and the black springs look nice as well B) The bad point was the new dome nuts I'd used, one was ok and the other had removed the end of the top shock mounting thread, in disgust I cut the nut open and found it was only threaded half way thats why it had goosed my threads on one side :'( I'll sort that tomorrow hopefully
While I was cursing my luck I decided to see if the clip ons could go the other side of the headlamp brackets, I had to replace the chrome tape stuff but that's easy enough and thankfully it all just about fits. Should make the beast easier to ride as well. Here's the result, I think I may drop the headlamp down a fraction otherwise I'm happy.
