5th gear on fs1??

Bericht door Sebben »

Hello!
I have a Yamaha FS1 -80, I live in Sweden. I'm can't understand much of your language but I kind of figured there is some kind of FS1-model with 5 gears? Since there's only 4 in mine, I'm wondering if there is any possibility that I could find one for sale, and if it fits in my engine...

VERY THANKFUL for good answers! :)

Hi and welcome!
Yes it is true, there are some 5gear FS1's. But in our country they were officially motorcycles. They had a top speed of about 90 km/h.
In Japan there were only 5speed FS1's. A 5speed engine is something like the holy grail for the FS1. They are very rare, and if you can find one, they are very expensive. The engine itself is exactly the same as a normal 4-speed engine. So it fits right under your bike.

Ok. Thank you for the very fast answer! :)
So there is no possibility that I could find one, then? :( That's a little sad. I had a Yamaha DT50MX before, I put a 5th gear in that (the 5th gear was taken away from them when they came to sweden) and I have a gearbox left. I wish it would fit in my FS1 but of course it wont. xD

Well, thanks again.

A DT50 gearbox doesn't fit :P A 5-speed FS1 is called a FS50
This is a 5-speed FS1:

Here you can find a 5-speed partslist:

Yeah, I know it doesn't fit :P that's what I meant, that i WISH it would but it does not! ^^

The FS50, still 50cc then? A 50cc engine that does 90km/h, that must do a lot of rpm huh? :P
4 gears is at least something, it's better than 3 or none... Wish I had 5 gears though.

Well, you dont need to have a 5th gear to go fast ;) I'm doing 90 km/h on GPS, Yamasam (member of our forum) is running about 100 km/h with a 4-speed engine

Hehe yeah, that's true :) but you get a better combination between acceleration and topspeed with one more gear...

Mine is doing about 80km/h but it's going to do at least 100km/h before I'm done with it :)

a 5speed drives fantastic :D because it dropes less in rpm when you shift up. wich is exacly what a fs1 needs

Is top gear on a 5 speed the same as on a 4 speed and are all the gears different sizes?

the gear box is a bit different from a 5 speed than the 4 speed,

The 5 Speed
The first gear: 3.417
The second gear: 2.059
The third gear: 1.476
The forth gear: 1.167
The fifth gear: 1.000

The 4 Speed:
The first gear: 3.077
The second gear: 1.889
The third gear: 1.304
The forth gear: 1.038
